CHOOSING FRESH PRODUCE

AVOCADO

-Choose avocados with unblemished skin.
-Pick up an avocado and make sure it feels heavy.
-Press on the avocado, making sure it is soft enough to yield under your finger but not soft enough to leave a mark.
-Make sure a Florida avocado is green with a yellow tone. A Hass avocado from California should be purplish black
NEVER BUY IF SQUISHY OR REAL SOFT

ASPARAGUS

-Look for straight, green, rounded stalks.
-Select firm asparagus that does not have a strong odor.
-Make sure the tips are small, closed and either dark green or purple.
-Avoid asparagus with woody stalks. The stalk’s girth, however, does not affect its tenderness quotient; thin asparagus is no more likely to be tender than thick asparagus.
-Choose asparagus spears of similar size so that they will cook uniformly.Image
